A child doesn’t require yoga skills to start off. Children are fast, full of energy, have a wild imagination and love playing and moving – they’re just the perfect audience for a yoga class. Learning how to breathe, eliminate tension and anxiety will help them promote a sense of calmness and manage emotional outbursts.
Get your family practice started with these kid-friendly yoga poses:
Come onto the floor on your hands and knees. Set your knees directly below your hips and your hands slightly forward of your shoulders. Spread your palms, index fingers parallel or slightly turned out, and turn your toes under. This pose increases strength in the shoulders, flexibility in the spine and hamstrings, strengthens bones in the legs and arms, brings more blood flow into the brain, to help reduce stress and anxiety.
Breathe in to a count of four, and hold the breath for a count of four. Then breathe out to a count of four, and wait for a count of four before breathing again. Play with this a bit until you find your perfect rhythm.
Accro Yoga / Air Plane:
Letting your kids fly is a great way to pique their interest in doing yoga together, and it helps you build strength in the arms and legs too.
A daily routine of yoga activity will make your child more disciplined and focused on their activity, and gives them the strength to face stress.
If you are looking for a yoga program in family, we recommend REVĪVŌ’s exclusive Yoga Family Retreat by Marie-Caroline Peponnet. She will introduce children to a healthier lifestyle by cultivating their interest for yoga. They will be encouraged to use their imagination, exercise their mind and strengthen their breath while learning techniques for relaxation, self-control, and stress-release.
