Celebrating Local Partnerships and Sustainable Practices: The Story of Made Tea
Published on: Sep 11, 2024
At REVĪVŌ, we believe in championing local businesses that embody the principles of sustainability, both socially and environmentally.
One such inspiring partner is Made Tea, a woman-led enterprise founded in 2015 by Ni Made Roni, affectionately known as Ibu Made. In Balinese culture, “Made” represents the second child, reflecting the company’s deep roots in Bali. In English, the word “Made” also carries connotations of creation, innovation, and craftsmanship, all of which are central to the brand’s identity.
Ibu Made, a former hotelier with a decade of experience living in Ireland, returned to Bali with a passion for farming and a vision to fill a niche in the tea market with tisanes—herbal teas that capture the essence of the island’s fertile soil. Today, Made Tea offers over 25 unique variants, proudly introducing the world to Bali’s rich heritage.
From its humble beginnings in Gianyar, the business expanded rapidly, moving from a home industry to a factory in Peliatan. In just a few years, Made Tea began exporting to markets overseas, starting with Malaysia and Paris, and later expanding to Slovakia, Canada, and the UK in 2019, and further to Australia and Poland in 2022. With an FDA license secured in 2024, Made Tea is poised for even greater global reach. Alongside this growth, the brand continues to achieve recognition in the art of tea blending, both nationally and internationally.

A Commitment to Sustainability:
Sustainability is at the heart of Made Tea’s operations, guided by the ancient Balinese wisdom of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between humans, nature, and the spiritual world. This principle is embedded in all aspects of the business:
Natural:
Made Tea products are 100% natural, free from additives or preservatives, and grown organically in the lush, fertile lands of Ubud, Bali. This practice demonstrates a deep respect for the earth.
Artisan:
Through traditional techniques, Made Tea produces high-quality, unique products that support local communities, especially women, while preserving Balinese culture.
Sustainable:
The company adheres to ethical business practices, ensuring long-term sustainability. Made Tea empowers eight local banjars (village communities) to cultivate raw materials, compensating them fairly to support the local economy.
With climate change posing a significant global challenge, Made Tea believes that collective action is essential for mitigation and adaptation, from international initiatives to grassroots movements. The hospitality and wellness industry, as one of the fastest-growing sectors, has a vital role in these efforts.
A Shared Vision for the Future:
At REVĪVŌ, we resonate deeply with Made Tea’s values and commitment to the environment and health through sustainable practices. Sourcing locally, for example, helps reduce our carbon footprint and supports local businesses, while initiatives like our Permaculture Garden promote sustainability at the grassroots level.
We are delighted to see more businesses in Bali embracing sustainable development. As a leading wellness resort, we are proud to amplify this message and partner with Made Tea for a greater cause. Together, we can inspire more entities to take part in building a more sustainable future.
